The question of why we should exercise, or why we all should 'schedule' ourselves to exercise and stay fit ? I know the first answer to this would come is "how rubbish! it's essential, it's basic, this shouldn't be a question!" The questions may seem pointless and foolish, but the kind of foolish questions occur to me often, from the tendency I have to compare myself with the birds, animals, insects, (the ones whom we think are less brainy). As none of these animals, birds I have ever watched exercising, have never ever watched a crow lifting dumbbells, or a lion finishing it's third lap on the ground and pushing self for fourth. I see them (dogs, crows, sparrows...) eating whatever they find, a dead rat, litter, drinking non filtered water and I wonder how come they don't fall sick. What kind of immunity they have that digests almost everything. On the opposite side, before drinking a single glass of water from an unknown place we think at least ten times. Even after taking all care when I catch diarrhea, I feel the crow outside my window is surely stronger than me.
So, coming back to exercise, I started exercising watching everyone else doing it or you know, it's necessary. My skeptical mind asks myself why has it become 'necessary'? Well, I found that I have got much of comfort in my life, I have already ensured tonight's meal, when this is the case why shall I be running for it? I think it in this way, if the comforts I have got in my life are withdrawn for a while, I wouldn't need to manage time or take time to exercise. I will have to be strong anyway, if I had to survive. It is only when it comes to survival, but survival has not been a major question for many of us these days.
The luxuries we have created for ourselves have definitely made us weak and vulnerable to diseases. Yet we seem to be greedy to get more and more. A hollywood animated movie WALL-E has brilliantly depicted where this luxurious path is going to place us in the future. The future I would only like to watch in a movie. With the kind of life-style adapted we are left with only options, introducing few outdoor sport activities in our daily routine or doing exercise regularly and making sure that our breath lasts till the last breath.

ReplyDeleteYes, exercise is necessary for all who stopped physical activities and increasingly dependent on gadgets. All these so called ease of life attitude should ring alarm bells for human kind.
